Our Story

A Grandfather’s Dream

YANCY HANDMADE was born from the
vision of Andres Yancy — an 85-year-old grandfather with a lifelong passion for the handmade craft traditions of Colombia. Far from the big cities, indigenous and artisan communities had been creating extraordinary handmade bags, purses, and woven goods for generations. Yet their work remained unseen, their talent unrecognized.Andres wanted to change that.

In 2018, Andres traveled to the United States with a simple but powerful mission — to bring authentic Colombian handmade bags and artisan crafts directly to people who would appreciate them. With the support of his daughter Ana, they began sharing the culture, art, and handmade purses of their region. What started as a personal journey quickly grew into a movement — a bridge between skilled Colombian artisans and conscious buyers across the US who believe that what you carry should mean something.

A Daughter’s Mission

Growing Artisan Communities Together

Today, Yancy Handmade proudly supports families from 6 indigenous tribes and artisan communities across Colombia:

- Wayuu Tribe

- Arhuacos

- Zenu

- Mokana

- Embera Chami

- Kankuamos Tribe

Ana is always participating in various local markets around the United States and has a great team that helps her with social networks and the website, to continue proudly showing the work of the artisans of her community and also being able to include new communities and new products that are also far from the big cities and deserve their work to be recognized and valued.
